The saddest thing is that, as quoted, "Electoral politics is largely about compromise and doing whatever it takes to win another mandate." The focus isn't on doing what's right or following the mandate dictated by the public for whom they serve, but rather the mandate which will serve themselves. Case in point the liberal gift of full pension after two years service while taking away the teachers' long-term service bonus.

Side rant: And THIS is what creates the cynicism causing many to lose faith in the political system which in turn lowers voter turnout. If politicians want greater voter turnout, then provide us with someone worth voting FOR as opposed to resorting to the lesser of 3-5 evils.
