Sink your teeth into Dracula

Shakespeare by the Sea trades their usual tragedy and comedy for Bram Stoker's lustful vampire king.

Love hurts for SBTS' David Patrick Flemming and Mara Zigler.
  • Love hurts for SBTS' David Patrick Flemming and Mara Zigler.

Leave it to the creative minds at SBTS to bring to life a gothic tale that ranges from Transylvania to London and back again in tiny black box theatre and on a shoestring budget. The vampire in this show is a far cry from Twilight's sparkly, cold-as-ice Edward. David Patrick Flemming is a steamy Dracula whose lust is bubbling very close to the surface. Mara Zigler does a wonderful job as Lucy, a not-so-innocent whose darker passions are awakened by The Count. Mary Fay Coady is a treat to watch as Mina, the upstanding young woman who battles her attraction to the dark lord and remains true to the valiant Jonathan (Jeff Schwager). Kevin MacPherson rounds out the cast as an understated Van Helsig. Puppets are used throughout the play with great effect. This is truly one hot production that will make your blood run cold.

To November 6 (Tue-Sun), Park Place Theatre, bottom parking lot of Point Pleasant Park, $25, 8pm (2pm Sundays), 422-0295
