An Intimate Evening with Hey Ocean! did not disappoint. Friday's show consisted of many HO! back catalogue tunes (starting with "If I Were a Ship"), a handful of new ones and solo songs from the band's three founding members.
Although the crowd was very chatty (seems to be a problem in Halifax these days) HO! gave the last show of its cross-Canadian tour its all. They definitely fed off the energy of the crowd, who was loving every minute. HO! said that the Halifax show was the best possible way they could’ve ended their tour. The audience also participated in a massive sing-along to "Big Blue Wave" and the band said we sang the loudest, an impressive feat due to the noise coming from the show going on upstairs at the Marquee.
I was particularly happy to hear some of Ashleigh’s new solo material live, and that the band played its stellar "Sprawl II" cover. Hopefully Hey Ocean! doesn’t wait three years to come back to Halifax again.
