Short Lives and Forgotten Deaths: Infant Skeletons from the“Baby Well” in the Athenian Agora

Dr. Maria Liston of the department of anthropology at the University of Waterloo examines the causes of death of nearly 450 infants found deposited in an unusual mass grave in the Athenian Agora. Many theories have been presented including cult sacrifice, a military disaster and a previously undocumented plague.
