Shop Boyz
Rockstar Mentality
(Universal)
Much like the popcorn films on the screens at your local multiplex, there’s an equal number of brainless filler discs that storm the airwaves during the lull in the summer release schedule. The debut album from the Shop Boyz is every bit a filler disc—it will drop another pair of singles and then quickly slip into obscurity alongside Chingy and Chamillionaire. There are a couple of guilty pleasure tracks in amongst the stuffing—lead single “Party Like a Rockstar,” for example, plus “They Like Me” and the title track—but there isn’t much else. It might be fun to party like a rock star for a night or two, however, work awaits on Monday.
