For women who don't wear daily makeup, how do you achieve a glamourous but natural look?

The primary purpose for makeup on a wedding day, even for the most natural bride, is to even the skin tone and to look well-rested and fresh. The second purpose is to draw attention to a bride's beautiful features: eyes and lips. To create definition, I apply high-quality base makeup that will photograph perfectly, even with flash.

What tips do you have for keeping makeup fresh throughout the night?

It's really important to pack a touch-up kit for the wedding day. My must-haves: oil-blotting sheets, translucent powder, Q-tips and lipstick or gloss. Also, blush and eyeliner. Make sure to blot your face before using the powder to avoid getting cakey—tissue works in a pinch, and blot, don't rub. Q-tips are great to fix smudged eyeliner.

How should a bride's makeup complement her dress?

"Complement" is the key word. I'm a huge fan of neutral colours. I focus more on the bride's overall look—her skin, hair and eyes—than the dress. Whether it's ivory, white, beaded, plain, satin or lace, the most important thing is how makeup suits her complexion and personality, not just the dress. Balance is key. That's why a makeup artist is so helpful. I recommend a trial run of your makeup to feel confident in the look. —interview conducted by Adria Young
