Sheryl & Matthew

Married July 26, 2014

The picturesque ceremony marrying Sheryl Chisholm and Matthew Quinn on the Crystal Cliffs beach in Antigonish was 12 years in the making, longer if you count the fact that the couple met when they were only children.

A few months after their 10-year anniversary, well ahead of the commitment curve, Matthew proposed on a sunset beach in Tofino, BC and the couple decided they wanted to get married on a beach in their hometown. “We really wanted to keep everything simple and personal but also wanted to have a dreamy and whimsical feel to it,” says Sheryl. After bouncing ideas back and forth, they decided to do as much as they could themselves—and choosing to tie the knot at Crystal Cliffs was a first for the venue as well. “Matt and his friends created and built the layout, aisle and log seats for the ceremony,” she says. “It was a lot of work but turned out perfectly.” The rustic arbor designed and hand-built by a good friend turned out to be the perfect centrepiece for what turned out to be an incredibly romantic and mellow day which was exactly how the couple had envisioned it. “Having a DIY wedding makes everything so personal and intimate,” says Sheryl. “There were so many little details of the day that had so much meaning because ourselves and family and friends helped make such a magical day happen.”
