Shakespeare by the Sea: Treasure Island

Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale brings magic to Point Pleasant Park.

Summertime in Halifax holds many treasures. Shakespeare By the Sea's production of Treasure Island is the perfect way to take in the wonder of Point Pleasant Park and experience a modern day take on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale. Directed by Jesse MacLean, the retelling of Treasure Island features a fantastic cast of pirates, a sea captain, a singing goat, a dopey squire, a rum-soaked parrot, a one-legged seaman and the unforgettable Ben Gunn, played by Ryan Whalen. As a coming-of-age story, Treasure Island is a timeless tale that rouses the child within. While the moral fibres of the narrative remain true to the original story, Shakespeare By the Sea's variation is flavoured with contemporary twists (going below deck to play Dance Dance Revolution or watching Pretty Woman) that will have you in stitches of laughter and singing along to sea shanties and boozy songs of conquest and adventure.
