Take a breath purple-face, it's true, In-Flight Safety's long-awaited new record is finally coming up the pipe. "We've had a few false starts and threw out a full record worth of songs that just weren't all that exciting," says guitarist John Mullane, adding that the ones they landed on were inspired. "The sound is very much 'In-Flight' but, to me, there is more coherence than ever before instrumentally. The guitar is a central character again but in a more new wave/'80s way." The band is still playing as a five-piece live but creatively it's now a duo of Mullane and Glen Nicholson which makes the upcoming album even more intriguing. "Discovering what I wanted to say was the biggest challenge," says Mullane. "I had no interest in recording songs that were finished for the sake of being finished." Rest assured, if you make it to The Seahorse on Friday you'll be rewarded with a slew of new songs and old hits. "We'll be joined by founding member Jon Sheen on keys," says Mullane. "Feels like Sackville 2003 all over again."

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
