Ruth-Ann MacDonald and Kristen Landry met in prison, yes, but it’s because they work there. And that’s not even the wildest part of this romance - the pair was in a serious motorcycle accident that landed Kristen healing a broken pelvis in Amherst and Ruth - who was airlifted to Halifax - hospitalized for six weeks of rehabilitation. “The distance and the shared trauma was challenging at times but ultimately brought us closer together with a confidence that we can overcome any obstacle,” says Kristen. After Kristen proposed via Kinder Surprise, they planned their intimate, cost-conscious wedding in the woods. “We did not have rigid expectations for a ‘perfect’ day but rather trusted that everything would work out as it was meant to in the end,” says Ruth, whose father’s cabin in Westville - a log home built around a tree - was the venue of choice. “We saw our wedding primarily as an opportunity to have our family and friends get together and celebrate something beautiful.” Keeping the guestlist minimal, making their own wine, having a barbecue dinner and serving a $20 Costco cake meant they could save to spend money where it mattered - preserving the day with photos and video. But really, it was the company who meant the most. “The feeling of happiness radiated from one another, and all of our guests,” says Ruth. Between an adorable song written by her sister, and taking a private moment to have a first look and share personal vows, love was in the air, and totally contagious.
