Cutting out a significant area of study does more than "inconvenience" those who wish to do that work. Perspectives are not simply interchangeable ("if course A is not available, just take course B"). The analytic framework offered in gender-critical studies generally is an essential corrective to the culture-blind academic traditions that still dominate university studies. Cut out Women's Studies and you cut essential critique. Cut out essential critique and you undercut critical thinking. Teaching how to analyze, assess, and provide informed critical commentary on the world is one of the university's main responsibilities. Cut Women's Studies and an essential site for undertaking that work is wiped out.
