f you're looking for a delicious way to ingest your medicine, these fluffy cannabis cinnamon buns are easy to make and will quickly become your new fave comfort-edible. Six taste-testers got the giggles, were able to focus on the fine art details of oil paintings and sound cue mixing, and sank peacefully into rejuvenating time-warp sleeps.
Yields: Approximately 8 cinnamon buns. Estimated 45mg/THC each. Halve the recipe unless sharing with a few friends, due to a short shelf life.
- 3 tbsp butter + 2 tbsp vaped weed
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 2 ¼ tsp rapid-rise yeast
- 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup brown sugar + 1 tbsp, divided
- shake of salt
- 3 cups pastry flour
- 3 tbsp infused coconut oil
- 1 cup pre-soaked cashews (overnight or in hot water for at least 3 hours)
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 2 tbsp almond milk
- 2 tbsp Miss Envy Botanicals coconut oil
For my medicated ingredients, I used a mixture of "already been vaped" (AKA ABV) weed and Miss Envy Botanicals' coconut oil. After vaping, save your toasted buds: golden roasted vaped ganja retains up to 30 percent of its beneficial cannabinoid! Because the pot has essentially been preheated, you can bypass the lengthy activation process when using it to make canna-butter.
Miss Envy placed first in the Topicals and CBD concentrate categories at this year's Canadian Cannabis Cup. At 20mg/tsp it's easy to microdose for less heady benefits, and can even be mixed with essential oils for a DIY topical treatment.
- Heat butter on non-stick pan on low heat. Mix in ABV, occasionally stirring for 30 to 40 minutes.
- Slowly add in almond milk. Increase to mid heat. Once mixture warms to a bath-esque temp, pour into a large mixing bowl. Smoke a nice doobie as milk/canna-butter mixture cools to 110oF.
- Sprinkle on yeast, let set for 10 minutes.
- Add salt and the tablespoon of sugar followed by flour in half-cup increments, stirring as you do. Mix until it's too goopy to stir.
- Use remaining flour to lightly dust your counter. Without over-mixing, knead dough into a loose ball then place back into mixing bowl. Let rise for one hour.
- Finish your roach from earlier, then start on the frosting: Mix cashews, maple syrup, milk and THC-infused coconut oil. Blend the heck out of the ingredients until as smooth as possible, to avoid gritty cashew bits. Refrigerate.
- When the dough has doubled in size, roll into a long rectangle on a flour-dusted surface. Brush on mixture of melted infused coconut oil, cinnamon and 1/4 cup of sugar, then tightly roll the dough, seam facing down.
- Cut 1.5-inch sections down the roll for approximately eight buns. Brush with plain butter or more canna- butter or coconut oil, if you wish. Place in well-oiled round pan on top of oven, then let rise as it preheats to 350oF.
- Bake for 30 minutes until buns are slightly browned. Let cool as you whip chilled icing.
- Frost, eat, enjoy, get hiiiieee!
Testers reported these "delicious" and "moist buns" cause a high that starts slow and intensifies over time, kicking in around 45 minutes. My neighbour took "a wonderful journey in [their] mind" while my weed guru Ren described them "tasting like love" and the medicinal effects "a body high disguised as cinnamon greatness."
Remember that the ABV you use will have different effects based on the strains you vape. Store ABV in containers labelled Indica, Sativa or Hybrid and remember to be patient with the length of time edibles take to set in. You can always leave the cannabis out for a non-psychoactive treat, using the same measurements of plain butter and coconut oil. Store buns in refrigerator up to two days, and heat before eating.
