Re: “Nova Scotia: A Dying Province

Nova Scotia, its political structure, its bureaucracy, the economy, the education system and its health care ALL need to be overhauled. Not tweaked or fixed...overhauled. Eliminate the duplication of administration and management, the high taxes, the imbalance of electoral representation, the low productivity ( GDP), reliance on the social service sector over entrepreneurship, the overwhelming red tape........all fixable. It only takes a "CAN DO" attitude and leadership. Both of which are lacking........

Re: “Letters to the editor, May 21, 2015

While the letter is clearly laced with profanity I believe that that was done simply to raise attention to his points.
I don't agree with everything written (as per the Irving comment) but all in all, it was and is great FOOD FOR THOUGHT.
I am surprised that not more people said "don't let the door hit your arse on the way out" as that is usually the response given to people who criticize what is going on and are frustrated with living in the province.
I think what the OP is saying......I girlfriend and I can....but the effort is too frustrating and no longer worth it.........somewhat akin to a bad relationship.....where you give it your all.....but it just doesn't get any better....and ultimately is no longer worth pursuing or engaging in.
I wish you well as I understand where you are coming from.
I hope that after your time away, coupled with many new experiences, that you will have an opportunity to return to the province that you obviously love, and try to make the changes that are so desperately needed here. Unfortunately so many things are so entrenched that change will hardly ever be forthcoming which is too bad. Really too bad. We have a beautiful province and it continues to slide.

Re: “premier mack kneel

Your comments are noted OB. While I am not sure that I would go to an international funeral for someone who I had never met (no matter who they were) Mr. MacNeil was invited by the PM, had a ride and being on the same plane had a chance to spend time with the PM which given our overall financial dependence on Ottawa is not to be taken too lightly. Just my 2 cents.

Re: “Saying farewell to Nova Scotia for a reason

At one time, people in Nova Scotia were very resilient and, at the same time, entrepreneurial in nature.
This has changed over the years.
We have all heard our parents say...."get an education so that you can get a good government job"....or have heard the cry "the government must do something". Both of these attitudes have contributed to our decline.
Of course our tax situation, our red tape burden, our aging population, our low GDP and our slow technological adaptation all contributed as well.
We need to become more entrepreneurial, we need to understand economic and community development and what is required for small business to succeed.
With regret many agencies who are supposed to be stimulating business are failing, because they do not understand business fundamentals.
This current government has a chance to exhibit leadership and implement strategies to turn the province around.
