Road to Nowhere

To the editor,

Never having lived in Halifax, but visiting it regularly for the past 38 years, Halifax for me is the greatest walking city in the world.

In those 38 years, I have also walked in cities from Vancouver to Yellowknife, Tokyo to Melbourne, Amsterdam to New York City and to St. John's. None offers as great a variety of geography, learning, history, culture, recreation, sports, food and drink, without getting into your car or on a metro, as Halifax does.

That said, the most serious blow to walking Halifax has to be that ugly and senseless Cogswell interchange leading nowhere. We should welcome infilling, when replacing parking lots and when the infilling continues to facilitate people both living and working in the city.
