Righteous

Cory Bowles has presence, he owns the stage. It’s hard to take your eyes off him as he becomes two very different black men in his show “Righteous.” The first man is a smart, tough drug dealer working to support his family. The second is a successful lawyer, fleeing his community and the taunts of “whitey” and “sell-out.” Bowles’ character transformations are amazing to watch—his posture, diction and gestures are perfect for each man. The story is interesting, though some words are difficult to catch. And though I went expecting another piece as well, a dance called “Adonis Rising”, “Righteous” was all that was offered. Still, it was one powerful show.

Show times are: September 1 at 9:45, September 2 at 6:30, September 3 at 9:45 and September 8 at 10:15 at DANspace. $7
