Review: Tick, Tick...BOOM!

Dartmouth Players Theatre, 33 Crichton Avenue, August 1 to 9, $15/$12, 465-PLAY

I should tell you, I should tell you: This youth production at Dartmouth Players Theatre is by Jonathan Larson, of Rent fame. Larson's Tick, Tick...BOOM! predates Rent, taking the audience on the playwright's autobiographical journey, leading to the creation of his worldwide hit. Shane O'Regan (above, middle), a recent graduate from Cole Harbour District High School, plays the lead role of Jonathan in this rock/pop musical, while Mikaela MacGillivray (above, right), from Neptune's Pre-Professional Program, plays Jonathan's girlfriend, Susan. The story of a young composer trying to make a theatrical breatkthrough addresses the issue of holding onto your dreams while life is throwing its best challenges---a theme that will resonate with high school students and older audiences alike.

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
