Return of the Taj

A grand opening for the Grand Taj (AKA the Taj Mahal)

FYI the Grand Taj's renos don't look like this.

Just over six months ago South Street’s well-known Indian eatery Taj Mahal (5175 South Street, 492-8251) turned off its stove and closed up shop, and since then curiousity surrounding the establishment’s fate has been brewing. (Seriously, it's my most-emailed topic.) Well, we’re happy to report that those of you croaking for a sweat-inducing dose of vinadaloo will have to wait no longer. After taking time to spruce the place up with some renovations the resto is ready for its close up, and this week marks its rebirth as the Grand Taj Restaurant. Don’t worry Taj lovers, despite the name change the restaurant’s owner (Meera Jaggi) and chefs remain the same. We all need a just need a little change sometimes. Welcome the Taj back to the food scene at the Grand's grand opening this Wednesday (January 23) at 4:30pm. I can already smell the naan.
