Ready, set, improvise

Twelve teams of high schoolers compete in the Nova Scotia Improv Games for a chance to make it to the national finals.

Let the Improv Games begin.
  • Let the Improv Games begin.

If you had to come up with something both creative and entertaining in 10 seconds flat, would you crack under pressure? Our palms are sweaty just thinking about it. That's the name of the game when it comes to the art of improv---and it's just that, an art. You go with your gut, or go nowhere. This weekend 12 local high school teams of improv geniuses face off, battling their spontaneity skills for a chance to head to Ottawa for the national finals. Preliminary rounds (from Wednesday to Friday) see four teams, performing four minute scenes, four times each, taking suggestions from the enthusiastic audience members.(That could be you!) It all comes down to Saturday though, when the wildcard round (2pm) and the finals (with the top four teams at 7pm) go down. The energy will be high, it'll probably get a bit loud and you'll witness unrehearsed, imaginative moments of true expression.

Feb 23-25, St. Matthew's United Church, 1479 Barrington Street, 7pm (and 2pm on Saturday), $5-7
