Mario who? Despite multiple releases in 2013, Nintendo’s plumber platformers Mario and Luigi haven’t reached the heights that Ubisoft’s limbless hero Rayman has. Rayman Legends takes running and jumping, flips it on its head and injects a beautiful style that saturates the senses. From placid early levels to enraging challenging stages later on, this is pure video gaming joy. There’s not much of a plot---your goal is to collect as many lums and teensies as you can. The more you collect, the more levels you unlock. And that’s all the incentive you need, the better you do, the more game you get. On consoles you can play with up to four people, which adds to the chaos, but is a fun diversion. The game also offers online challenges where you can try to climb the ranks in global leaderboards. Diverse, imaginative and beautiful, Rayman Legends might be the best platformer ever made. As a long-time Mario fan, I don’t say that lightly.
