Re: “Full House

I was very disappointed by my meal at Wasabi House -- it's yet another Japanese restaurant where all the food is actually cooked by Chinese. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but there are significant differences between the two cuisines. It's not authentic, fresh, honest Japanese food by a long stretch.

Re: “A trust betrayed: Peter Kelly and the estate of Mary Thibeault

If a licensed investment advisor were to behave as Peter Kelly did -- those actions would constitute breach of fiduciary duty, misrepresentation, and fraud, with consequences of a loss of one's license and potential criminal charges.

Peter Kelly, however, will continue to act with impunity and without fear of consequence -- until the public of HRM stand up and take action. It is beyond naive to assume that council or the CAO will take action. They will view this as a private dispute, and not take any action (positive or negative).

People get the government which they deserve. HRM is going to h*ll in a hand-basket, and that will not change until Kelly is voted out of office. Wake up, people!

Re: “Bistro Le Coq opens

I was recently at le Coq for brunch, and was extremely disappointed, following all the hype on Yelp and other sites. The ambiance and service were fantastic, the food however fell far short of expectations.

Some concrete examples:

A croque madame should not be made with marbled white/raisin bread, or with back bacon.

A salade with confit de canard should not be served with dried cranberries or a sickly-sweet dressing.

Pomme frites should be crispy (think Belgian frites) -- they should not be soggy, and they should not be dusted with parmesan. I asked to have my frites without parmesan -- something which the kitchen could not accommodate, which begs the question, are they even fresh? Or do they arrive frozen, pre-coated in parmesan?

A salade nicoise should not be served with raw ahi tuna.

le Coq doesn't respect the French classics. Instead, its little tweaks and twists devalue tried-and-true recipes, and deeply disappoint.

Re: “Lang Optometry & Eyewear

I did not have a good experience in this store. While it is a beautiful store and has a large selection of frames, the behaviour of the staff put me off for good.

I left feeling completely patronized -- is it normal to be brow-beaten and lectured that your tastes are too pedestrian, that your style of frames are at least 2 (or more) years behind the times, from a rather eccentric woman in a kimono and combat boots?

Surely she meant well, but the delivery came across as condescending and even insulting.

Re: “Update: Trade Centre gave wrong date to city

Wow. Amazing that an email authorization is all it takes. Really helps clarify previous comments about no proper controls being in place.

Re: “Update: Trade Centre gave wrong date to city

So does that mean this 600k is the same 600k shown on Attachment C, with a date of 6-Jun, and a comment of "Advance per email authorized by Deputy CAO"?
