"All of us are better when we're loved" is the last line—and resounding sentiment—of legendary Nova Scotian author Alistair MacLeod's much-loved novel, No Great Mischief. On Thursday evening, literature buffs across the country will raise a glass to MacLeod in an expression of that love.

#RaiseAGlassForAlistair is the latest campaign by Project Bookmark, an organization that places snippets from Canadian literature on installations in the places they're set, creating a "literary trail" across Canada. The final passage of No Great Mischief will be emblazoned on a plaque set to be unveiled in Port Hastings, Cape Breton on October 1.

On this side of the causeway, Stephanie Domet will host a #RaiseAGlassForAlistair event at The Company House, with the kitchen party tunes provided by fiddler (and proud Caper) Wendy MacIsaac. Sheree Fitch—who was a friend of MacLeod's—and Donna Morrissey will read from MacLeod's work.

"We're going to be encouraging people to get their drink of choice, whether it's whiskey or apple juice or beer or water, so we can raise a glass to Alistair to celebrate his contribution to Nova Scotian literature," says Robin Spittal of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia. "It's going to be a celebration."

The party doesn't stop at the New Brunswick border, though. Shelagh Rogers is the evening's Twitter toastmaster, encouraging readers to participate in the festivities online and knock back a cold one with the rest of the country. Slainte!
