Pretty pottery

Turnstile Pottery's holiday show and sale promises to be festive.

There was a little backlash when the city put the holiday decorations up---"too early" Twitter screamed, but festive elves everywhere would agree, really, it's never too early to slap on a little holiday spirit. Enter Turnstile Pottery, a co-op ceramic studio that opened in 2001 and has been providing Halifax with a varied and gorgeous selection of pottery ever since. This show will be no exception. "It's a chance to show some new work and open our studio up for the public to celebrate the holidays. We have sales twice a year to clean the studio up and make it into a store," says organizer Bethany Riordan-Butterworth. She and Lily Meadows, Elizabeth Woodyard, Rosanne Tanner, Dorota Forfa, Jenny Morton, Christine Waugh, Jyelle Vogel and Therese Bombardier will have everything from mugs, bowls and other pottery staples and holiday fare for sale. "One of our members will have handmade snowflake ornaments and will be running a workshop in December," she says. So, you can get the original and then try to recreate it yourself (good luck). --Lindsay Rainingbird
