Powerless public

To the editor, re: "Public not powerless" by Paul MacKinnon, (Dec. 4, Letterhead):

MacKinnon, the executive director of the Downtown Halifax Business Commission, who wrote an impassioned letter insisting democracy would not be thwarted by the new development approval process, left me even more certain that this is indeed the true aim of the supporters of the new approval process, which bypasses council.

His supporting argument was disjointed and unconvincing.

My only reason for comment is that, the one thing standing between the current Halifax and a nondescript city that loses and demolishes its inventory---the largest inventory---of heritage in English Canada, is the average Haligonian with his common sense and judgement.

MacKinnon and "HRM by Design" must illuminate the influence of these individuals in order to execute their plan for a new Halifax.

Their new Halifax would be the commercial "kiss of death" for this city.
