P'lovers, Halifax

When P'lovers opened in 1992, there was a lot of explaining co-owners Ann Caverzan and Liz Crocker had to do to bring people up to speed on their environmental store. Now people get it right off: hand-made soap, hemp clothing, accessories made from recycled materials, books, reuable diapers, locally made and international fair trade products of all kinds. As you'd expect for a store focused on sustainability, the original owners passed the torch to longtime employee Shelby Lendrum in 2013—not long after the store moved from Park Lane Mall to the Trillium Building—and she later moved it to the Hydrostone's St. Joseph Square.
