Your lovely friends at CKDU want to have lunch with you on Sunday. But they're taking this meal pretty seriously. We're talking food, face paints, prizes, a cookie contest (12:30-2pm), the kick-off of CKDU's record drive and a whole lot of live music. And it's all taking place in everybody's backyard, the Common. While you snack and mingle, check out performances from R$ $mooth, Cactus Flower, Jon McKiel, The King's College Orchestra and get gnarly with a special Beach Boys cover band. Also, for the rest of HRM, watch out for the picnic's coinciding cube-van mini-tour. Watermelon Eating Contest and Dream Friends (who'll also play at the picnic) are hitting Sackville (near Kinsmen Park), Tantallon (at the end of Indian Point Road) and Dartmouth (near Harbourview Market) to play with some local bands and give out prizes from the back of a 15-foot van. Hurray for a real-life magical mystery tour!
Sun August 21, Halifax Common (near the Pavilion), 12:30-5pm
