It does seem sad that this and other businesses are not more accessible. The notion that it is not says a great deal about the culture. People with disabilities seem to be a forgotten minority group when it comes to human rights in Canada unlike many countries in the West - including the US. There's a long history of people with disabilities being regarded and treated as second-class citizens and protections are often observed more in the breach than the observance.

New Scotland Yard has many attractions so it often causes me a pang as I pass by. If by-laws or building codes are somehow the culprit, it's stunning that legalized barriers have been allowed to stand for so long. It's not an unreasonable thought that many with mobility issues should be able to enjoy and participate in activities such as shopping and eating outside of their homes - after all, it's 2016.
