Perfume War is inspiring and well-told

Bonus points for featuring two Haligonians.

Michael Melski’s rousing documentary follows the journey of
Haligonians Trevor Greene and Barb Stegemann, lifelong best friends. Greene is a soldier wounded by an axe attack in Afghanistan. Stegemann is the founder of The 7 Virtues, a fragrance company that buys its oils from farmers there, freeing them from forcibly growing poppies that eventually become heroin. Stegemann’s fortitude and tenacity in support of Greene’s good heart and truncated mission—her motto is “Make perfume, not war”—combine for a twin throughline to this story that starts on the steps of King’s, stops at Dragons Den’ and ends at perfume counters worldwide. Inspiring and well-told.

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
