I discovered the closure of Robie Food the day before our whole family had planned to take my Mom there for her annual birthday dinner. We'd been eating there our entire lives, as it was a favorite of my parents as teenagers. So sad to see it close, even sadder that we didn't get to have one last giant meal before it did.
You have a point there sugar. Especially since they've been together for at least a few years, and suddenly after a breakup there's a bun in the oven? Sounds more like she made a mistake of sleeping with someone who didn't use protection like her husband normally does, and now she has the option of raising the child with the other man, by herself, or claiming it's the husbands. Not really much of a choice.
The only time I can see this being appropriate would be at a large theme park, or event where there are so many people that this would just be a way not to lose your child in the sea of madness. Otherwise, like PDG says, there are other options, my favorite being, if your kid can't be taken outside without the discipline needed to not run into traffic, then they aren't ready to leave the house.
