Packed in a Trunk

This moving film tells the story of 1920s Provincetown artist Edith Lake Wilkinson, who was committed to an insane asylum after being outed as a lesbian in 1924. Right before her commitment, Wilkinson was at the height of her creativity living among the legendary arts community of early 1900s Provincetown. After her commitment she was conveniently forgotten by the male-dominated art world, having many of her accomplishments credited to male artists in her circle. It wasn’t until decades later that her family uncovered trunks full of her work in their attic and realized they had something truly special on their hands.
