Oklahoma

When: Feb. 18-March 7, 8 p.m. 2009
Price: $15/$12
Oklahoma! is an old-school musical in the best sense of the word. It has catchy songs (like the titular one and “Oh What a Beautiful Mornin’”) and charm and energy enough to fuel two musicals. It’s also simply plotted, broadly acted and a whole lot of fun. While it’s hard to imagine that a show that includes numerous crowd scenes, dance numbers and even a surrey with fringe on top could be staged in the tiny space of the Theatre Arts Guild, they pull it off. Kudos are in order for the entire cast of this show. There are some amazing voices (not the least of which belong to Kyle Gillis, Ashley Grant and Stuart Hiseler) and some memorable performances (especially Sharleen Kalayil as the flinty, funny Aunt Eller and Lyndsay Anderson as the saucy flirt Ado Annie). As the song says, “You’re doin’ fine, Oklahoma!”---Kate Watson Presented by the Theatre Arts Guild. Wed-Sat 8pm. Special matinée Sunday March 1st at 2pm.
