The team at Dramatic Changes wants to create art and community at the same time. "We've been getting together once a week for three months to discuss what support could look like," says co-founder Ross Unger of the group's Nocturne project, Free Consultations. "We talk about times we've received support, times we've given support and what went wrong, issues that could have been avoided, what works and doesn't work."

Together through these workshops the group has created a manual called "How to Be a Good Support." For the performance, there will be two chairs. A half-dozen Dramatic Changes members will rotate in one, and audience members will take the other. "It's an invitation for audiences to sit, and engage in consultation," says Unger. "Sometimes we consult them. Sometime they consult us."

The idea of intimate connection was explored last year in Group Hug. "We did it for four hours. Some of the feedback was mindblowing," says Unger. "There was someone who hadn't been touched by somebody who wasn't family in over 10 years. We took a break and but left the signs up and people were doing it when we came back."

Free Consultations will be an evolving experience, and the manual expanded, as more people participate. "Individuals can't always help," says Unger, "but if enough individuals provide support, then you have a community."
