The new year has brought a new home for Kevin Beal's Black Buffalo Records. After getting the business up and running out of Gottingen Street's Plan B merchants' co-op, Beal's found a space not too far around the corner where Black Buffalo can stand on its own two feet. "My long term goals were always to have my own space. My time at Plan B simply ran its course and it was time for a change," he says of the move to 5687 West Street (Suite 250, just above Fresh Prints). When the space on West Street became available and the rent was cheaper, the timing seemed right, so I made the leap." Setting up shop a stone's throw away from Obsolete Records (2454 Agricola Street) Beal says the neighbourhood has the potential to be Halifax's first record store district. Imagine THAT.

You can take this buffalo by the horns starting on Saturday, and all used LPs will be 50 percent off, by the by. Store hours will be Wednesday through Friday from noon until 6pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 11 am until 5pm. Beal says a grand re-opening is in the works for February.
