Musicians for Farmers

When Jeff Torbert was hanging out at his oldest friend's farm back in 2006, he realized how important farming was but, as a musician, didn't know how to help. A couple years later, Musicians for Farmers was born. "The first event, I played in most of the bands, and cooked most of the food myself," he says with a laugh. Now in its seventh event (in two-and-a-half years), Torbert says musicians are approaching him to perform for a night of local food, local music and local company. This year brings Acres and Acres, Don Brownrigg, Dusty Keleher, Amy Lounder, New Providence, Steve Gates, Torbert, Becky Siamon and Alana Yorke together for farmers, with food from Local Source (entirely prepared by volunteers) and guest speaker/farmer David Greenberg rounding off the evening's recipe. All proceeds go to Heliotrust, an EAC affiliate that works in farmland conservation. You can get tickets at Local Source Market, the EAC, Mariposa Natural Market, Trident, The Wooden Monkey and The Grainery, or email [email protected]. –Holly Gordon
