Murder in Fashion

In spite of an intense manhunt and the media frenzy surrounding his whereabouts, Cunanan's career was marked by the ease with which he was able to commit the crimes and the fact that he eluded authorities without bothering to disguise himself. Possibly victimized by priests and other adult males in his early life, Cunanan's malignance was intensified by his desperate need for attention and admiration. When his party-hardened looks began to wane, so did the demands on his services from venomous pay-for-play sex clients. He went on the hunt for his favorites and baited them with deadly intent; if they gave him the validation he so desperately needed, they lived. The more forceful the rejection, the more extreme methods he used to torture them. The film chronicles many of the deaths. He stalked Gianni Versace and asked him for work as a model. Unable to cope with his hero's rejection, he shot him in broad daylight. He managed to crawl into a Miami houseboat after suffering a knife wound from a street thug, then shot himself in the head when the police finally closed in on him.
