Much Ado About Nothing

Dreamy summer fun

Been there
  • Been there

Oh ho! English nerds the world around should be well familiar with this tale by now; the story of a beloved filmmaker who won All The Money by directing the biggest movie ever, now spending some goodwill by adapting a classic Shakespearean comedy. Thus we have Much Ado About Nothing, the stripped down, black and white offering by Joss Whedon. A healthy troupe of the Buffy auteur's regulars populate this modern depiction of princes arriving in Messina (Whedon's actual Los Angeles home) for a mirthful vacation provided by governor Leonato (The Avengers' Clark Gregg). Sean Maher, Fran Kanz, Amy Acker, Alexis Denisoff, Nathan Fillion and many more gleefully embody their roles. It's mostly Whedon who seems to be enjoying himself though; lovingly presenting this crisp rendition of romantic confusion. It's not great Shakespeare, but the dreamy summer fun of it all is infectious. Plus, Fred and Wesley as Beatrice and Benedick!
