First You Dream: Celebrating 75 Years of the Nova Scotia Talent Trust

    Through July 28

This exhibit acts as a snapshot of the works facilitated by the Nova Scotia Talent Trust, which has been awarding scholarships to visual artists since 1949. A curation of pieces from across generations and mediums, it skips across themes from 1979 to 2016—but all pieces will pique your curiosity or pluck your heart strings. 902-457-6160

In tangent with her current MSVU Art Gallery exhibit clearing, mixed-media Indigenous artist Carrie Allison hosts a trio of drawing workshops focusing on photosensitive techniques. The all-levels, non-consecutive sessions kick off with a walk through a nearby clearcut site, which acts as inspiration for he group's sketches. "En route and on site, the group may discuss the impacts of clear cutting, private vs. public property, western ideas of owning land and Indigenous understandings of stewardship and living with the land," the gallery adds. Then, it's back to the gallery to see how Allison crafts her drawings of deforestation. Email claire.dykhuis@msvu.ca or register on eventbrite (search "Drawing Workshop with artist Carrie Allison") to save your spot. 902-457-6160
