More cops, whether you need them or not

Cops, cops, cops!

Nova Scotia is boosting the number of police officers that are being hired in the next year.

Justice Minister Cecil Clarke says 45 new officers will be hired in the next year, which is 25 more than it originally planned to recruit during that period.

Clarke says people want to see more police officers on the street.

The extra recruits are part of a plan to add 250 new officers across the province by 2011.

The article doesn't say where the cops will be deployed, but presumably with a number that large at a good chunk of them are headed to HRM, even though we don't need them:
The actual police ratio now is very, very good, and the chiefs of both the RCMP and the Halifax Regional Police Department acknowledge that."
