Micah Lexier and Kelly Mark go Head-to-Head

Two NSCAD grads team up for a two-person show, showcasing their well-aligned inspirations and processes.

It seems Micah Lexier and Kelly Mark are cut from the same cloth. Over the years the two artists have been drawn to similar materials and processes, have shared similar inspirations, like counting and text, but somehow, had never shared a gallery space. "We both seem to make work that is somewhat related

---in some cases almost identical," says Lexier, who suggested the shared exhibit to Robin Metcalfe, the curator of Saint Mary's University's art gallery. "I wanted to see what a show of pairings of works would look like...to really get a sense how similar or different our work is." Head-to-Head brings together pieces from both Lexier and Mark, as well as a collaborative piece which is a creative spin on an email exchange. In 2008 the two emailed the lyrics of Irving Berlin's "Anything You Can Do" line-by-line, in reverse order, back and forth--- Lexier writing the male lyrics, Mark the female. After being printed from each artist's computer, the series of 12 emails---just like this exhibit---reads like a perfect Duet.

To October 9, Saint Mary's University Art Gallery, Loyola Building, 5865 Gorsebrook Avenue, 420-5445
