Menz / Mollyz relocating

Brunch-lovers, it's time to mourn: Lovely north-end diner Mollyz (2104 Gottingen) has closed up shop. Both Mollyz and its upstairs sister bar, Menz, planned to pack it in later this month anyway, in anticipation of an upcoming relocation. But a lot has changed since a month ago, when we first reported the Mollyz shake-up—and a lot of super-lame storms have hit our fair municipality. The diner space, still fragile after a fire last summer, was hit especially hard by one mid-December storm. "There's no insulation; the windows and all the pipes froze. And it was raining inside of Mollyz..." says diner and bar co-owner Doug Melanson. The resulting water damage destroyed one Mollyz dining room; the other was kept open on a limited schedule, but it was chilly in there, so Mollyz served its last brunch on New Year's Day. (Menz will still be open upstairs until January 19.) The early closing's even more of a bummer, because it's accompanied by another piece of Mollyz news: while both Mollyz and Menz will re-open at 2182 Gottingen in February, the new Mollyz will be smaller. "It won't be the same menu as we had in the past," says Melanson. "We're still looking around to see if there's a potential for a new location, for Mollyz as a standalone." Check back for updates; for now, you can reach Menz at 446-6969.
