Meghan Fish Contemporary Art + Projects will be showing its inaugural exhibition until April 23 at the art space
2053 (Gottingen Street, 877-5002).
Fish displays a variety of painting, photography and new media by artists from across the country, as well as a number of local artists. The gallery is open (Tuesday to Saturday, 12pm - 5pm) plus by appointment, or the work can be seen anytime online at meghanfish.com.
Fish---née Dorward, who has worked in Halifax’s commercial art world for the last five years (most notably as the former assistant director at
Studio 21 Fine Art)---believes that art “pop-up exhibitions” like this one are a more progressive way to sell art and that maintaining a year-round gallery is not necessary, with art-buyers flocking to galleries based on word-of-mouth. She also uses Facebook and Twitter to promote this local art to international customers.
“It's a virtual world out there now,” explains Fish. “It's time we embrace that in the art world.”
