Mixing sounds as well as eras, Matmos creates a strangely cohesive album that pays tribute to medieval England and 19th century America. While Civil War does not approach the genius of A Chance to Cut..., there are some tracks that reward multiple listens like “Reconstruction”, “Pelt and Holler” and a great rethinking of “Stars and Stripes” —Neil Fraser
