    Illuminations

    Through June 30
Mary E. Black Gallery 1061 Marginal Road, Halifax Waterfront

The National Metal Collective presents this group show celebrating the contributions of Canadian women in the arts. The 15-piece, travelling exhibit features candleholders made from heritage silver, crafted by some of the nation's best metalsmiths—including Nova Scotia's Kye-Yeon Son and Elizabeth Goluch. 902-492-2522

    Patterns of Growth

    July 5-Aug. 25
Mary E. Black Gallery 1061 Marginal Road, Halifax Waterfront

Toni Losey's earthenware pieces rest, nubbly-textured and smooth- silhouetted, in waves of ombre gradient. Finishing flourishes that look like a cross between the most beautiful barnacle your imagination could render and an alien's eye dapple protrusions from the wheel-thrown, altered and assembled works. You can't stop staring—and you don't want to, either. 902-492-2522

    Woven Woods

    July 5-Aug. 25
Mary E. Black Gallery 1061 Marginal Road, Halifax Waterfront

It's hard not to think of the trees in a Van Gough painting when your eyes drink in the detail of a Loraine Roy work: Softly sloping lines make the nature-centred motifs feel like they're swaying softly as you watch, winking a la "Starry Night." 902-492-2522
