Maritime Business College

Lots of programs, plus help for people going back to school.

I’m a Financial Support Representative at Halifax Regional Municipality

I chose to attend Maritime Business College due to the small class sizes and the hands-on environment. Being a mature student, I also didn’t want to be in school with people right out of high school, so that was another plus—having more people close to my age.

MBC made it an easy transition for a mature student such as myself to make the decision to go back to school. They help in getting funding, parking requirements and anything else that you may need help with to obtain your education.

I found the specialized accounting portion quite challenging, but I thoroughly enjoyed the course and learned quite a lot. Being a student at MBC, after you finish your education, they help you to find employment as well!

I had previously taken accounting courses, and while I enjoyed accounting I had never actually worked in that field, though at times throughout my years spent in the workforce I had jobs that included some of the financial aspects of running an office. After being laid off from my last job, however, I took it as my sign to go back to school and further my education in the accounting field.

I was so nervous on my first day, but the people in my department were great: they did everything they could do to make me feel comfortable and fit in. Having a lot of respect and admiration for the people that I work with makes me truly love what I do, and makes every day memorable for me!
