Re: “Why dads-to-be should take birth preparation classes

I attended Public Health pre-natal classes before my partner had our first child. Its value, for me, was in one specific moment. It was an exercise where dads and moms in the room were separated. Each group had to discuss their biggest worries about pregnancy and starting a family. Each group reported back to the whole class. The men had a list of concerns: providing for the child, worries about spoiling the kid, coping with sleep deprivation, being good role models when the child was born. The women all had one concern and not a single men among us had mentioned it: Labour.

These classes are important. Dads-to-be have a lot to learn. Most of us are very willing and will try our best to support our partners, but effective education is a big part of preparing for the big day. Online courses are better than nothing, but I don't see them providing the same kind of "aha moments" that real workshops provide.
