Hey Macklemore, can we go thrift shopping? Well, at Makenew (1526 Queen Street, 444-4120) you can. The eight-month-old thrift shop created and curated by local designer Anna Gilkerson has recently opened its doors to a much-deprived male market. Still fairly new to Vintage Row, Gilkerson decided to expand her space when the room next-door opened up. Now the neighbourhood, which is known for housing old-school stores and retro fabrics, has welcomed a brand new second hand shop where where men, too, can scour for a good find. Makenew Man, which opened last week, carries the same trusted brands the original is known for: Levi’s, Polo Ralph Lauren, JCrew, along with some more luxurious names like Oscar De La Renta and Burberry. Gilkerson will also be keeping with her innovative ways of blending old and new by continuing to make original styles from recycled fabrics. Welcome to the world of thrift shopping men, it’s freaking awesome.
