Mad about The Passion of Adele Hugo

Eastern Front Theatre's musical tale of Victor Hugo's lustful daughter makes crazy love look good.

Mad about The Passion of Adele Hugo
Mad about you. Not mad funny, mad crazy y'all.

Love, lust and madness all intertwine in Eastern Front's sensational new musical The Passion of Adèle Hugo. Written by David Overton with music by Zachary Florence and direction by Scott Burke, it's the story of author Victor Hugo's youngest daughter and her burning passion for a feckless soldier that pulls her from her Guernsey home to Halifax and beyond. Sweet-voiced and sad-eyed actor Sara Farb is simply perfect as Adèle, taking her from a sheltered young woman to master manipulator with a will of steel. Marty Burt shines in his multiple roles as does Amanda LeBlanc who brings touches of humour. The superb cast is rounded by Sabryn Rock in a variety of roles and Bruce Godfree as the handsome object of Adèle's obsession. The set and projections are simple and effective, and the music is haunting. This is home-grown theatre that we can be passionate about.

To Nov 20, Neptune Studio Theatre, 1593 Argyle Street, Tue-Sat 8pm, Sat-Sun 2pm, $30, $25, $15, 429-7070
