LunaSea: Talking Heads 2

Martha Irving and Sherry Smith of LunaSea are serving up two of Alan Bennett's delicious, bite-sized theatre treats from his Talking Heads monologue series. These wry, sly and oh-so-British stories are brilliantly written and beautifully performed. In A Lady of Letters, Irving portrays a lonely spinster who fills her time penning letters of complaint with heartbreaking and hilarious consequences. Irving is almost unrecognizable in an iron grey wig and slouchy cardigan and her accent, timing and delivery are totally delightful. In Love Among the Lentils, Smith plays a woman whose intelligence and questioning nature make her ill-suited for her role as a vicar's wife. Her tale of alcoholism and a torrid affair with a lovely East Indian grocer is both very funny and very sad. There isn't much time to catch these little jewels, but I suggest you do. –Kate Watson
