Lindsay Barr

While her smouldering green eyes and riot grrrl aesthetic may have helped land her recent video on MuchMusic, it’s her talent for writing infectious “hey, hey” party anthems that has earned Lindsay Barr her current buzz. “I think rhythmic happenings is my finest delicacy,” as she puts it. In 2006, she released her debut LP, Devils of Pride. A single from the album, “Riot Girl,” a bouncy pop tune laced with killer blues harp, has been nominated at the upcoming ECMAs for Best Urban Single. It’s a slightly puzzling nomination that puts her up against hip-hop and rap artists like J-Bru and Jamie Sparks---not that she’s complaining. “I’m just happy to be included,” she says. Without her backing band, the Bullies, behind her this weekend, Barr admits that things may be a little more laid back. But not too laid back: “I still plan on bringing the rock and the funk.” (MA)
