Letters to the Editor | Opinion | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

Well the cats out of the bag and not a moment too soon. I'm so glad people are finally starting to catch onto what most people in our fine city have known for years.

Violence and street crime is out of hand in HRM. As a Musician/Bartender the downtown core is where I spend most of my work week with my wife who works in a restaurant downtown as well. I'm afraid for her safety and infuriated that I have to rely on her coworkers to walk her to her car at night. No one should be afraid to go to work.

Our cultural and vibrant downtown is fast becoming a cess pool of gangs and vagrants where you can't walk 10 feet without being confronted by someone. I've witnessed vandalism, brawls and outright attacks on innocent pedestrians simply walking home from an evening out. I'm sick and tired of hearing about friends like Dawn Macphee and Giles Oland (to name a few) getting the tar kicked out of them for simply enjoying all that Halifax has to offer.

We need foot patrol officers on Argyle street and the downtown core all the time. Mayor Kelly, your citizens are sick of this and you will be up for re election soon enough. Clean up our streets before someone gets killed for going out for dinner.
