Letters to the Editor

At a time when the world is witnessing an economic crisis of unparalleled proportions, Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government has demonstrated ithas no plan, no competence and no will to effectively address this crisis. Instead of taking action to stimulate the economy and to create jobs, the Conservatives chose to use last week’s economic and fiscal update as a meansto make ideological cuts and to put partisan politics ahead of the best interests of Nova Scotians.

Their unwillingness and inability to address the crisis has culminated in the opposition parties’ losing confidence in this Conservative government. As a result, Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion, New Democrat Leader Jack Laytonand Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe met to determine if a stable and effective alternative could be found within this current Parliament and, after a weekend of positive and constructive meetings, the leaders of the three parties announced that an agreement has been reached to support a cooperative government to address the impact of the globaleconomic crisis on Canadians.

They put partisan politics aside and are working with the other parties to create a plan that will put our economy and Canadians first.

Nova Scotians don’t want another election. This coalition is ready and united in its effort to put the interests of Canadians first, and they will work toward the introduction of the economic plan that Canada needs.
